You are the prize. Not a charity case.
Starting 6 December: a new weekly newsletter on Fridays.
The final daily newsletter 📢
Heads up!
This is the final daily Brand First newsletter.
As I’ve been telling you:
I’m changing the name of this newsletter to correspond with the title of my upcoming book. Same content and focus for you, new name for me.
Since 72% of you voted for a weekly newsletter, you’ll start getting a weekly roundup email next Friday.
Look for this new name and new format on Friday, 6 December.
Thank you as always for being part of this mighty community. And for trusting me in your inbox. 🙏🏽
Cheers.
– Kevin
Reject: ‘We won a new grant.’
Embrace: ‘They won a new grantee.’
Or better yet: ‘We both won a new partnership.’
“Nonprofits need the funds, but the donor also needs results and impact,” says Mickness Aeschlimann. “It’s a win-win situation for all.”
Another way to frame it. ⤵
“It’s not about money,” says The Eight Principles. “It’s about two parties coming together to accomplish something they cannot do alone.”
So stop fundraising with a hand out for the donor’s money and start communicating like it’s a handshake between equals.
Your messaging will be bolder.
You’ll attract more funder attention.
Conversations will become more just.
And we can shift the doer-donor power imbalance, once and for all.
Flip the script.
Be the prize.
💪🏽💛
The daily bonus
As we transition to a weekly newsletter, it’s worth a reminder why I write:
Sharing this content is actually part of our own theory of change at Mighty Ally. We want to scale this brand/funding expertise and democratize all these tools, so that any nonprofit leader anywhere can fix their fundraising.
It's an effort we call Field Building. It lives alongside our Consulting and Training practices. And this intervention includes our online course Brand Bootcamp, the public speaking that I do with Founding Partner Eve Wanjiru, my daily posts on LinkedIn, and the book I’m writing.
So every time you like, comment, and repost — you're helping this mission.
Thank you.
Need my help?
If this advice is useful — but you're ready to get even more fundable and findable — check out Brand Bootcamp.
It's our self-paced, online course to maximize your funding. In just 15 minutes a day.
Just today I told a young fundraiser starting out that the first thing he should do is follow Kevin Brown. Quick, pithy advice. No wasted words.
He signed up.
